Saturn opposition on 8th March 2009

Saturn is reaching its opposition on the 8th of March 2009 and therefore will be at its closed this year. It would be shining bright at mag -0.5 and will be visible throughout the night providing a good opportunity to view the beautiful planet. Of course, because of the current orientation the rings are not visible but it is a rare opportunity to see the rings nearly edge on. The rings system looks like a thin, straight line and has its own beauty when seen through a telescope.
